Mamika - a great photography project

A few weeks ago, I was reading a fashion magazine (Elle Italy) when I saw some pictures that caught my attention. The photos were picturing an old lady in unsual settings, dressed up either like a super hero or a model. I was so impressed by the funky, gothic pictures (and also by the fact that finally someone was taking great, artists pictures of an old lady!!) that I wanted to find out more ...and found great information on the internet.
The lady portrayed in the images is a  91-year-old Hungarian grandmother whose name is Frederika. A few years ago she was suffering from loneliness and depression so his nephew - Sascha Goldberger- suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations. Grandma reluctantly agreed, and once they got rolling, she couldn't stop smiling.
So the series MAMIKA (grandmother in Hungarian) were created.

Frederika was born in Budapest 20 years before World War II. During the war, at the peril of her own life, she courageously saved the lives of ten Jewish people. She then immigrated away from Hungary to France, forced by the Communist regime to leave her homeland illegally or face death.

Sascha has made a great website with all the pictures of his grandmother and even created a MySpace page for her. She now has more than 2,200 friends.

You can check his website out at http://www.sachabada.com/ (it's all in French!)
Have a look at the pictures and SMILE!!!
