Inspired by Sami

Swedish designer Emma Lundgren has a collection called 'Samilight' that's inspired by her Nordic roots and the Sami clothing. Cool thing about her pieces is that they're made from recycled and sustainable materials like wool, wood, cupcake molds

I was struck by these pics...indeed...I think they are so beautiful...the clothes are by Aftur, an Icelandic brand  established in 1999 which makes fashion from recycled clothing.
Aftur operates in Reykjavik, Iceland and maybe this is one of the many reasons why I love it sooo much. http://www.aftur.is/about/

Supermarket Sarah

Sarah is a designer who started to fill the "walls" in her living room with clothes but has now spread into public spaces; galleries, shop fronts, bars, receptions and most recently Sarah curated a 30ft high wall at Selfridges London Concept Store.

The walls have taken on collaborative formats and so far Sarah has worked with brilliant designers including Fred Butler, Patternity, Donna Wilson, Tatty Devine and many more, forming a super network of young talent. Supermarket Sarah has become the place to go for inspirational delights and is regularly featured in media across the board from Style Bubble to the BBC news.

Come on, dare to say you don t love Sarah's idea?!! :))

Greenland &Fashion

I recently came across these pics of beautiful sweaters and boots from Iceland...I love them. I like the patterns and the colours...

...but above all I find the Greenland Wax so interesting... it's indeed a wax you can rub on your clothes to make them wind-proof and waterproof .

In the early 1960’s after experimenting with ski- and bees wax on tent fabrics and trying different mixes, Åke Nordin arrived at a unique combination of paraffin and bees wax and the special waxed fabric was chosen for the tents and clothing tested in the 1966 Greenland Expedition. Since that time this perfect combination of wax has been known as Greenland Wax....(http://www.fjallraven.us/default.aspx)

People from Greenland...you are sooo smart!

Mani - Handmade clothes with love in Bologna

Mani is the name of a brand founded by Michela Di Crescenzo, a young fashion designer originally from L Aquila, but now based in Bologna. In her home atelier she designs and sells beautiful women clothes, hand painted t shirt, hats, handmade jewelry, belts.
I visited Michela's atelier a few days ago: she has welcomed me with a sweet spices tea and we chatted a lot about her work, her passion for Africa and for beautifully designed clothes.
Obviously I bought something... a purple greatly shaped skirt.
For anyone who wants to get in touch with Michela and see her handmade collections I suggest to visit her website www.mani-hm.it. If you are interested in visiting her home atelier- Viale A. Lincoln, 68 - 40139  Bologna -  Michela receives clients on appointment: you can call her at 0039 347 4096248

Aurélie Bidermann - chic and sweet jewels

I saw Aurelie Biedermann's creations on the last edition of Elle Italy...and obviously loved them!!!
She is a French designer who early in 2003 decided to think big and launch her own line that. Without a doubt Aurelie is not far from completing her objectives and is eager to re-invent herself with brand new designs over and over again.

It seems that Kate Moss and Jessica Parker love her jewels...how to deny that they are just super chic and super sweet???

Check her website at http://aureliebidermann.com/
She is also running an e-boutique..I m tryng to resist not to do some online shopping, but it's sooooooo hard!

P.s By the way, I am taking some days off and flying to Ibiza tomorrow. I ll try to post something from there too....

Pierre Cardin - Do you still remember his fashion??

Did you know that Pierre Cardin is Italian and that his real name is Pietro Cardin?
I didn't... and to be honest I even thought he had quitted the fashion industry long time ago... but obviosuly I was wrong!
I recently saw the book which was published last year to celebrate 60 years of his wonderful career. I was mainly attracted by its cover page ... (have a look below, it's no wonder why I was attracted to it)

and once I started to fold its pages...I was captured by Cardin’s design from the 1960’s – 1970’s. His designs embraced the themes of science-fiction and travel to outer space. The space age 3-D shift and the astronaut men’s look are his most famous outfits. He used materials never before used in fashion such as vinyl and metal rings.
Have a look at the pics I randomly selected...

I absolutely love this pic of Mia Farrow wearing a Pierre Cardin dress..isnt' she beautiful?

Cardin was a genius in promoting his name. He licensed his name to a wide array of products including chocolate, pens, cigarettes, frying pans, alarm clocks, mineral water, cassette tapes, car-seat covers, and more. He has accumulated over 900 licenses worldwide and his name appears on more than 800 different products in over 100 countries...He keeps saying: " My name is more important than myself."

I also like what he said once in an interview about fashion:
"We undress men and women, we don't dress them any more."...and also

The jean! The jean is the destructor! It is a dictator! It is destroying creativity. The jean must be stopped!”...

ok GIRLS, from tomorrow on..LET US WEAR ONLY SKIRTS!!!
